(RALEIGH) -- N.C. State University Economist Michael Walden will be among the featured speakers when the North Carolina Mayors Association meets February 1 in Durham, with the group focusing on regionalism and future challenges facing North Carolina municipalities.
Walden, author of North Carolina Beyond the Connected Age: The Tar Heel State in 2050, will discuss regional economies and trends as the larger driver of the state economy.
The N.C. Mayors Association, led by chair Vivian Jones, Mayor of Wake Forest, will also examine the role of municipal investments in local business development and review future challenges and goals of municipalities as outlined in Vision 2030, the N.C. League of Municipalities' member-driven strategic visioning plan. Unveiled in 2015, the plan establishes a number of goals in order for cities and towns to thrive while dealing with technology demands, changing demographics and economic shifts in North Carolina.
The N.C. Mayors Association is an affiliate organization of the North Carolina League of Municipalities formed specifically to provide a platform for all of the state's mayors to work together regarding the major goals and challenges of cities and towns.
